In the present study, hyaluronic acid (HA) coated chitosan (Chi)/siRNA ternary complexes have been developed and characterized as a novel therapeutic strategy molecularly targeting hypoxia-inducible factor 1α (HIF-1α) pathway for the treatment of UM.
Expression analysis demonstrated that addition of bevacizumab under hypoxic conditions induced VEGF-A, GLUT-1 and HIF-1α in B16F10 cells as well as in UM cell lines and two of four primary UM tumor cultures.
In the present study we investigated the involvement of hypoxia-inducible factor 1 (HIF-1) in uveal melanoma migration, invasion and adhesion, the hallmarks of aggressive behavior of cancer cells.
