BRAF mutation was strongly associated with peritoneal metastases (relative risk = 1.8, p < .001) with lower incidence of lung (RR = 0.3, p = .004) and liver (RR = 0.7, p = .005) limited metastases.
Compared with BRAF wild-type tumors, BRAF-mutant tumors more commonly associated with peritoneal metastases (50% vs 31%; P=.045) and ascites (50% vs 24%; P=.0038).
Patients with BRAF-mutant tumors more commonly develop peritoneal metastases, less frequently present with disease limited to the liver, and have shorter survival after metastasectomy compared with patients with BRAF wild-type tumors.
