Heterozygosity for the Gly972Arg variant of the IRS1 gene showed the strongest association for T2D in both analyzed samples (OR = 2.43, 95% CI 1.12-5.26 and 2.64, 95% CI 1.37-5.10, respectively).
These results suggest that IRS-1 Gly972Arg polymorphism is significantly associated with the risk of developing PCOS and that this association is primarily mediated by increasing the levels of fasting insulin.
