In conclusion, almost all the patients with pancreatic cancer showed venous invasion, indicating that invasion into large veins and destroyed type veins could be a risk factor for liver metastasis and that increased expression MMP-2 and MMP-9 were related to such invasion.
The expression of MMP-9 was positively related to the tumor invasiveness and metastasis in gastric cancers, however the association between the positive expression of TIMP-1 and the invasiveness and metastasis was negative.
This study was designed to investigate the expression of MMP-2, MMP-9 and TIMP-1, TIMP-2 in human squamous cell carcinomas of uterine cervix, and the association with invasion and metastasis of human squamous cell carcinoma of uterine cervix.
This study aimed to determine the expression of MMP-9 and TIMP-1 in gastric carcinoma, and the association of the expressive imbalance between MMP-9 and TIMP-1 with the invasion and metastasis and prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
These findings indicate that the potentially functional polymorphisms, MMP-9 P574R and R279Q, may confer the biomarker in the occurrence and metastasis of primary lung cancer.
Here we showed that (a) CXCL12/CXCR4 axis is expressed in PC bone metastasis; (b) exogenous CXCL12 induced MMP-9 expression by PC cells; (c) bone stromal cells and bone tissue conditioned media induced the migration of PC cells in a CXCR4-dependent manner; (d) pharmacological inhibition of PI3 kinase and MAP kinase pathways abrogated CXCL12-induced MMP-9 expression and invasion of PC cells; (e) exogenous CXCL12 induced Akt1 phosphorylation is indispensable for proMMP-9 secretion, migration, and invasion of PC cells; (f) CXCR4 was localized to lipid rafts in PC cells and initiated Akt phosphorylation.
MMP2,MMP7,MMP9 and MMP15 may be relevant with carcinogenesis, development and metastasis of adenoid cystic carcinoma, and different metastasis potential may result from different subtype of MMPs gene family.
The analytical data presented here suggest that MMP-9 glycoforms secreted by tumor cells are unlikely to be tethered at the site of secretion, thus promoting more extensive cleavage of the ECM and providing a rationale for the contribution that gelatinase B makes to cancer cell metastasis.
Taken together, our results suggest that the K23 motifs of RECK protein can inhibit MMP-9 secretion and activity and attenuate metastasis of lung cancer cells.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship of the expression of MMP-9 and cathepsin B with tumor aggressiveness expressed by lymph node metastases and survival rates in gastric carcinoma patients.
After adjustment using logistic regression for the potential confounding effects of gender, age, and location of the tumors, homozygous MMP-9 279RR and 574PP are more evidently associated with lymph node metastasis with OR(adjusted) of 5.7 [95% confidence interval (95% CI), 1.80-18.34] and 4.2 (95% CI, 1.37-12.69).
Thus, MMP-9 and TIMP-1 play an important role in the development of head and neck squamous sell carcinoma and TIMP-1 level in blood serum and cancer tissues is linked to first grade of regional lymph node metastasis.
