Median serum IL-17A level was higher in patients with PM and DM than the control group (0.73 vs. 0.49 vs. 0.35 pg/mL, respectively; p<0.050) and higher in PM when compared to DM (p<0.001).
Patients with DM showed significantly elevated muscle tissue IL-4 and IFN-γ levels, whereas IL-17 levels were comparable between patients with DM and controls.

IL-17 messenger RNA was expressed in unstimulated PBL and lymphocytes from the skin and lungs of SSc patients, but not in similar samples from patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) or polymyositis/dermatomyositis or from healthy donors.
