Haploview analysis showed that the ACC (rs151290, rs2237892 and rs2237895) haplotype is the most significant risk allele combination for CVD, while CCA is the most significant risk haplotype for co-morbidity with T2D.
We report four novel genes associated with type 2 diabetes and recovery upon weight loss: ACAT1 (encoding acetyl-CoA acetyltransferase 1), ACACA (encoding acetyl-CoA carboxylase α), ALDH6A1 (encoding aldehyde dehydrogenase 6 family, member A1) and MTHFD1 (encoding methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase).
We have previously observed associations of the T-allele of the exon 18 variant (ACC --> ACT; Thr759Thr) of the sulfonylurea receptor 1 (SUR1) gene with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
The two missense variants (Asp673Asn and Ser1369Ala) and two sequence variants (ACC-->ACT, Thr759Thr and a c-->t intron variant in position -3 of the exon 16 splice acceptor site) were examined for association with NIDDM and for a possible influence on insulin and C-peptide secretion after intravenous glucose and tolbutamide loads in a random sample of unrelated, healthy, young Danish Caucasians.
