Phenotype/genotype associations of three SNPs in the CACNA1D gene revealed an association between the C allele of the SNP rs312480 and reduced mRNA expression, as well as decreased insulin secretion in vivo, whereas both rs312486/G and rs9841978/G were associated with type 2 diabetes.
There were six of 1096 single nucleotide polymorphisms in five genes potentially associated with type 2 diabetes: tachykinin receptor 3 (rs1384401), anaplastic lymphoma receptor tyrosine kinase (rs4319896), calcium channel, voltage-dependent, L type, alpha 1D subunit (rs12487452), FOXO1A (rs10507486 and rs7323267), and v-akt murine thymoma viral oncogene homolog 3 (rs897959).
The determination of the structures of the human CACNL1A2 and CACNLB3 genes should facilitate study of the role of these genes in the development of NIDDM and also other genetic diseases such as long QT syndrome.
