Since decreased expression of ICAM-1 has been known to contribute to cancer cell escape from immunologic recognition and cytotoxicity by effector cells, the present results indicate that unknown function of TGF-beta1 in the tumor progression and metastasis of pancreatic cancer.
The transfection procedure did not affect the expression of the costimulatory molecules B7.1, intercellular adhesion molecule-1, and leukocyte function associated Ag-3 by SP-LCL. muRas-LCL were able to induce muRas-specific cytotoxic T lymphocytes from three of three healthy donors and one of one patient with pancreatic carcinoma.
In 4 of the ICAM-I-negative pancreas cancer cell lines, it was possible to induce a remarkable expression of ICAM-I by incubating the cells in the presence of inflammatory cytokines, whereas one cell line, 818-4, remained ICAM-I-negative.
