We used data from the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey III on individuals 15-39 years of age assessed for major depression, dysthymia, and/or bipolar disorder I and tested for cytomegalovirus (N=6825), herpes simplex virus (HSV)-1 (N=5618) and/or Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) (N=3167) seropositivity as well as C-reactive protein (CRP) level (N=6788).
Helicobacter pylori-positive patients (46.3%) were associated with an increase in IR, proinflammatory cytokines, C-reactive protein (CRP), LAR, NAFLD-liver fat score (NAFLD-LFS), and hepatic steatosis index (HSI) (all P < 0.01).
Helicobacter pylori-seropositive subjects with interleukin-1 polymorphisms showed significantly higher levels of high sensitivity C-reactive protein (0.04-0.12 vs. 0.02-0.05; P<0.001).
