We demonstrate altered cervical mucosal gene expression and lower interleukin 15 levels in women with S. haematobium infection as compared to those with S. mansoni infection, which may influence HIV acquisition and cancer risks.
As a potential alternative to ART, the interleukin-15 (IL-15) superagonist ALT-803 has been shown to boost the number and function of HIV-specific CD8<sup>+</sup> T and NK cell populations <i>in vitro</i> Four simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV)-positive rhesus macaques, three of whom possessed major histocompatibility complex alleles associated with control of SIV and all of whom had received SIV vaccine vectors that had the potential to elicit CD8<sup>+</sup> T cell responses, were given ALT-803 in three treatment cycles.
We demonstrate that NK cells from HIV-positive donors can be strongly stimulated with IL-15, improving their antiviral and cytotoxic potential and, more importantly, clearing HIV-infected cells after latency reversal with a clinically relevant drug.
