Polymorphisms in Gβ3 (GNB3) are associated with many human disorders (e.g. hypertension, diabetes and obesity) but the role of GNB3 in these pathogeneses remains unclear.
The associations of the rs5443" genes_norm="2784">C825T polymorphism (rs5443) of the G-protein beta3 subunit (GNB3) gene and eight adjacent single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) with diabetes were examined using a Japanese population (n (M/W): 2956 (1335/1621); age: 63.0+/-10.2 years).
The frequency of the GNB3 gene polymorphism was 0.48 and 0.47 in subjects with diabetes and in those who had general health examinations, respectively.
The C825T polymorphism in the gene coding for the beta3 subunit of G proteins (GNB3) has been shown to be associated with several phenotypes such as hypertension, obesity, and diabetes mellitus comprising the metabolic syndrome.
