The comparison of the genotype distribution in XRCC1 within the different groups did not showany statistically significant associations (p > 0.05), except for the comparison between the pre-senile cataract group and the group without cataract, where an increased risk of developing pre-senile cataract for the genotype Gln/Gln (p = 0.029; OR = 1.02-40.67) in recessive inheritance models was observed when adjusting for risk factors.
In this study, we aimed to analyze the association of single nucleotide polymorphisms in AP endonuclease-1 (APE1), 8-oxoguanine glycosylase-1 (OGG1) and X-ray repair cross-complementing-1 (XRCC1) genes with the risk of age-related cataract in a Chinese population.
Polymerase chain reaction and restriction fragment length polymorphisms were used to analyze XPD T751G and XRCC1G399A in 180 patients with age-related cataract and 174 healthy individuals as controls.
