Gene expression profiling of lip salivary gland (LSG) has shown that C-X-C motif chemokine 10 (CXCL10) and matrix metalloproteinase 9 (MMP9) expression is upregulated in primary Sjögren's syndrome (pSS) patients.
TGF-β1 (alone or in combination with EGF) only can upregulate AQP3 expression in SSc fibroblasts so, TGF-β1 affect MMP-1 and MMP-9 just in SSc fibroblasts.
Here, we analyzed MMP1 -1607 1G/2G (rs1799750), MMP3 -1171 5A/6A (rs3025058), and MMP9-1562 C/T (rs3918242) polymorphisms in relation to susceptibility to SSc and its clinical features.
Neither SSc nor control skin fibroblasts expressed gelatinase B, indicating that the increased gelatinase activity is not due to gelatinase B induction.
