From January 2008 to January 2014, 360 consecutive patients with massive lumbar disc herniation were treated with PELD(184 patients) or MIS-TLIF(176 patients).
In addition, the protein expression levels of LIF were initially increased in patients with lumbar disc herniation and in rabbit models, particularly in the 2‑week modeling group; however, its expression decreased with the progression of disc degeneration.
In conclusion, this study suggests that the single nucleotide polymorphism in the caspase 9 Ex5 + 32 G/A may be associated with LDH and disc degeneration in the Han population of northern China.
In the present study, matrix metalloproteinase-1, -3, -8 and -9 (MMP-1, -3, -8 and -9) protein and mRNA expression downregulation was observed in patients with LDH according to western blotting and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
Interplay between low plasma RANKL and VDR-FokI polymorphism in lumbar disc herniation independently from age, body mass, and environmental factors: a case-control study in the Italian population.

Moreover, higher expression of IL-21, IL-17, and COX-2 was found in the protein and mRNA levels in disc tissues from LDH patients than in normal disc tissues.

Nucleus pulposus (NP) tissue samples from 10 patients with idiopathic scoliosis and 10 patients with lumbar disc herniation were collected. qRT-PCR was used to assess the expression of HOTAIR and ECM-related genes; western blotting was used to detect the expression of senescence biomarkers, apoptosis-related proteins, and Wnt/β-catenin pathway; flow cytometry was used to detect apoptosis; and the MTT assay was used to determine cell proliferation.
Osthole exerts analgesic effect on radicular inflammatory pain in LDH rat model, by down-regulating the mRNA expression of the target gene of COX-2 via inhibiting ERK activation in the spinal dorsal horn.
