Levels of serum miRNA, including miR-371a-3p, miR-373-3p and miR-367-3p, were measured using the ampTSmiR (amplification targeted serum miRNA) test in 82 patients, including 39 in cohort 1 and 43 in cohort 2, who were treated with orchiectomy, chemotherapy and post-chemotherapy retroperitoneal lymph node dissection. miRNA levels were compared to clinical characteristics and serum tumor markers, and correlated with the presence of viable germ cell tumor vs fibrosis/necrosis and teratoma.
A robotic retroperitoneal lymph node dissection was performed and pathology revealed a CD117-positive metastatic seminoma leading to appropriate germ cell tumor-directed chemotherapy.

The level of serum GOLPH3 in patients with serous and endometrioid carcinoma was significantly higher than that in patients with mucinous carcinoma, clear-cell carcinoma and germ cell tumor (p<0.05).
By comparing candidate driving genes between AYA cancers and those from all age groups for the same type of cancer, we identified different driving genes in prostate cancer and a germ cell tumor in AYAs compared with all age groups, whereas three common alterations (TP53, FAT1, and NOTCH1) in head and neck cancer were identified in both groups.
Testis specific protein Y-encoded (TSPY) is a Y-located proto-oncogene predominantly expressed in normal male germ cells and various types of germ cell tumor.

Next generation sequencing analysis of platinum refractory advanced germ cell tumor sensitive to Sunitinib (Sutent®) a VEGFR2/PDGFRβ/c-kit/ FLT3/RET/CSF1R inhibitor in a phase II trial.
Next generation sequencing analysis of platinum refractory advanced germ cell tumor sensitive to Sunitinib (Sutent®) a VEGFR2/PDGFRβ/c-kit/ FLT3/RET/CSF1R inhibitor in a phase II trial.
Next generation sequencing of this 'exceptional responder' identified the first reported case of a RET amplification as a potential basis of sensitivity to sunitinib (VEGFR2/PDGFRβ/c-kit/ FLT3/RET/CSF1R inhibitor) in a patient with refractory germ cell tumor.
For CTC detection, a combination of germ cell tumor (anti-SALL4, anti-OCT3/4) and epithelial cell-specific (anti-keratin, anti-EpCAM) antibodies was used.

In the present study, we found that griseofulvin inhibits human germ cell tumor cell growth through activation of mitochondrial caspase pathway (caspase 9 and 3) leading to the activation of apoptosis rather than an alteration of cell proliferation.
The cell line was characterized by heterotransplantation in Nude mice, cytogenetic studies, immunohistochemical and flow cytometry staining for germ cell tumor biomarkers, quantitative reverse-transcription polymerase chain reaction for cancer testis antigen expression, and BRAF mutation screening with quantitative polymerase chain reaction.
Although studies in pituitary-specific Sf-1 knockout mice suggest hypogonadotropic hypogonadism, little is known about endocrine function at puberty and on germ cell tumor risk in patients with SF-1 mutations.
Seminomas and embryonal carcinomas (EC) are both type II germ cell tumor (GCT) entities and develop from the same precursor lesion (carcinoma-in situ, CIS).
The SNPs of the PARP1 gene, as well as differences in the levels of PARP-1 and poly(ADP-ribosyl)ation of proteins, may influence germ cell tumor development and responses to chemotherapy and radiotherapy.
