DNA was extracted from the whole blood of 192 natural postmenopausal women (40 to 65 years) screened for the METS and tested for three gene SNPs related to obesity: the fat mass obesity (FTO: rs9939609) and the methylenetetrahydrofolate reductase (MTHFR: C677T and A1298C).
The prevalence of the MetS was 23%.In a marker-by-marker analysis, the ADRB2 rs180088 (OR 1.22, 95% CI 1.01-1.48) and PAI1 r</span>s1799768 (OR 1.05, 95% CI 1.01-1.10) were associated with an increased MetS risk, whereas the C5 rs17611 (OR 0.95, 95% CI 0.91-1.00) and the CTLA4 rs5742909 (OR 0.91, 95% CI 0.84-0.99) were associated with a decreased risk.
