Splenectomy in SAH mice significantly reduces inflammatory cell infiltration, and decreases NADPH oxidase-2 and macrophage chemokine protein-1 expression in heart and brain when compared to non-splenectomy SAH mice.
In conclusion, Nox4 should contribute to the pathological processes in SAH-induced EBI, and there was not an overlay effect of Nox2 inhibition and Nox4 inhibition on preventing SAH-induced EBI.
