For MOF, unadjusted and age- and BMD-adjusted fracture risk in IFG was similar to normoglycaemia HR 1.02; 95% CI 0.74-1.40 and HR 0.95; 95% CI 0.69-1.32, respectively, but diabetes was higher compared to normoglycaemia (unadjusted HR 1.64; 95% CI 1.04-2.60; adjusted HR 1.57; 95% CI 0.98-2.51).
There was an inverse association between adherence to the Prudent pattern and total hip %ΔBMD (p-trend = 0.028 after adjusting for age and clinical site; p-trend = 0.033 after further adjustment for smoking, calcium supplement use, diabetes, hypertension, and total energy intake).
Some medical conditions (spondyloarthropathies, chronic kidney disease and mineral bone disorder, diabetes, obesity) or drugs (glucocorticoids, aromatase inhibitors) are more prone to cause fractures with subnormal BMD.
Studies reporting the femoral neck and/or lumbar spine BMD in adults (age > 20 years) with T1D in comparison with people without diabetes were selected.
