Knockdown of TDP43 inhibits tumor progression, including proliferation and metastasis, and overexpression of TDP43 promotes proliferation and malignancy of mammary epithelial cells.
However, little is known about its role on cancer cells, here we report a 35kD fragment of TDP-43 also plays a key role in apoptosis of breast cancer cells, and may be served as a potential therapeutic target to cure cancer.
Taken together, our data suggest that TRIM16 and TDP43 are both good prognosis indicators; also we showed that TRIM16 inhibits cancer cell viability by a novel mechanism involving interaction and stabilisation of TDP43 with consequent effects on E2F1 and pRb proteins.
