Our data demonstrate that the synthesis of prostaglandin F2α (PGF2α) may be affected in PCOS-follicles and that the transcription factors GATA-4 and GATA-6 are present in PCOS-follicles but they are not involved in the abnormal transcription observed in the steroidogenic enzymes.
To investigate polymorphisms in androgen metabolism regulators that are implicated in the etiology of polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) in vitro; to investigate HSD17B6 and GATA6 to determine whether these genes are associated with susceptibility to PCOS or key phenotypic features of patients with PCOS.
We demonstrated that retinoic acid and GATA6 increased the expression of 17alpha-hydroxylase, providing a functional link between altered gene expression and intrinsic abnormalities in PCOS theca cells.
