Progranulin (PGRN) is an evolutionarily conserved glycoprotein associated with several disease states, including neurodegeneration, cancer, and autoimmune disorders.
Progranulin is a secreted neurotrophin that assists in the autophagolysosomal pathways that contribute to MHC-mediated antigen processing, pathogen removal, and autoimmunity.
This review summarizes recent studies of PGRN as a novel target molecule in the field of autoimmune disease, and provides updated information to inspire future studies.
