This study examined whether SIRT6 promotes epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) of papillary thyroid cancer through hypoxia inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α).
We assessed the association of expression of TIMP-1, HIF-1α, and hypoxia-inducible carbonic anhydrase IX (CAIX) and XII (CAXII) with clinical parameters in PTC.
While FN-PTC and F-PTC showed no difference in GLUT-1 expression (50% vs. 75%, p = 0.363), FN-PTC showed lower HIF-1α immunoreactivity than F-PTC (25.0% vs. 75.0%, p = 0.032).
These findings support that HIF-1α is important in tumorigenesis of PTC and that it may serve to be an important target for identification and treatment of aggressive tumors.
Increased expression of Met protein is associated with up-regulation of hypoxia inducible factor-1 (HIF-1) in tumour cells in papillary carcinoma of the thyroid.
