As HMGB1 is heavily implicated in the pathogenesis of colorectal cancer, it is crucial to further improve our understanding of the functional roles of HMGB1 not only in colorectal cancer, but ultimately in all types of cancers.
In addition, HMGB1 has been suggested to contribute to chemotherapy resistance in tumours, including lung cancer, osteosarcoma, neuroblastoma, leukaemia, and colorectal cancer.
As expected, decreased levels of Bcl‑2 and increased levels of Bax were detected in the HMGB1 shRNA‑transfected colorectal cancer cells, and the Bax/Bcl‑2 ratio was increased in HMGB1 shRNA‑transfected cells.
