Estrogen and androgen-converting enzymes 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase and their involvement in cancer: with a special focus on 17β-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase type 1, 2, and breast cancer.
Increased expression of HSD17B1 in NSCLC may contribute to an elevated intratissue level of E2 and consequently may support the development and spread of cancer.
We also assessed whether a priori risk factors modified the associations between HSD17B1 genotype and cancer risk, and whether HSD17B1 genotypes were associated with plasma estrogen levels among postmenopausal women not using hormone replacement therapy.
