In this study we aimed at defining a prognostic classifier based on DNA copy number alterations of adolescent and young adult (AYA) (10-25 yrs) ALL patients (n=60) determined by microarray CGH and the relapse status of the patients.
We have performed a retrospective array-based comparative hybridization (array-CGH) study on 41 acute leukemia samples [n=17 acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) patients only at diagnosis, n=3 ALL patients both at diagnosis and relapse; n=20 acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients only at diagnosis and n=1 AML patient both at diagnosis and relapse] using an Agilent 44K array.
This is the first study evaluating the clinical significance of CNA as detected by array-CGH in childhood ALL and the first to suggest that such analyses may provide clinically important data.
Ten dup(1q)-positive BLs/ALLs were investigated by tiling resolution (32k) array CGH analysis, which revealed that the proximal breakpoints in all cases were near-centromeric, in eight of them clustering within a 1.4 Mb segment in 1q12-21.1.
Tiling resolution array CGH of dic(7;9)(p11 approximately 13;p11 approximately 13) in B-cell precursor acute lymphoblastic leukemia reveals clustered breakpoints at 7p11.2 approximately 12.1 and 9p13.1.
