Insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF1) pathway plays a critical role in malignant transformation, and epidemiology studies have also shown that single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in IGF1 pathway genes are associated with prostate cancer risk.
Thus, IGF-1R might be a factor in the morphological change of colorectal mucosal crypts, and it may play an important role in the growth and malignant transformation of precancerous polyps.
Our data suggest that IGF-I and its corresponding receptor may not be directly involved in endometrial cancer cell proliferation and differentiation in vivo, though other components of the IGF-I system (e.g., IGF binding proteins) may affect endometrial malignant transformation and tumor progression.
