Although no SNP was associated with breast cancer risk among women of European descent, we found evidence for an association among East Asians for rs1800925 (IL-13) and breast cancer risk (OR = 2.08; 95% CI: 1.32-3.28; p = 0.000779), which remained statistically significant after multiple testing correction (padj = 0.0350).
In the present study, association of three IL13 gene polymorphisms at positions -1512 A/C and -1055 C/T in the promoter and +2044 G/A in exon-4 was investigated in Iranian women with breast cancer and healthy controls.
To determine whether IL-13Ralpha2 chain can render sensitivity of breast cancer to IL-13 cytotoxin, we injected IL-13Ralpha2 plasmid in s.c. established tumors by i.t. route, followed by systemic or i.t.IL-13 cytotoxin administration.
The DNA-binding activity of Stat6, a member of the signal transducers and activators of transcription gene family, is activated 30 min after exposure to IL-4 and IL-13 in human breast cancer cell lines as well as in HMECs in primary culture.
We have recently showed that interleukin (IL)-4 and IL-13 induce 3beta-HSD type 1 gene expression in human breast cancer cell lines as well as in normal human mammary epithelial cells.
The present results demonstrate that IL-4 and IL-13 may decrease estrogen-induced breast cancer cell proliferation and induce the expression of a breast cancer marker, thus strongly suggesting that breast cancer cells are targets of both IL-4 and IL-13 action.
