The session on gastrointestinal tract B cell lymphoproliferations was dedicated to B cell lymphoproliferative disorders that arise primarily in the gastrointestinal tract (i.e., duodenal-type follicular lymphoma) or preferentially involve the digestive tract, such as large B cell lymphoma with IRF4 translocation and mantle cell lymphoma (MCL), including diverse molecular subtypes (i.e., CCND3-positive MCL mimicking MALT lymphoma).
Our data suggest that clinical presentation on the leg and blastoid cytology along with high proliferation and expression of Bcl2, Mum-1/IRF4, and IgM are typical for MCL involving the skin.
In B cell non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), MUM1 expression was observed in 73.2% (30/41) of diffuse large B cell lymphoma (DLBCL), 20% (1/5) of marginal zone lymphoma (MZL) and 43% (3/7) of small lymphocytic lymphoma (SLL) cases, whereas it was not seen in any cases of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) or follicle center lymphoma (FCL).
