The cluster analysis of these DEGs showed that 4 genes, including human leukocyte antigen (HLA-DQA1), HLA-DRB4, integrin 3 (ITGB3) and killer cell lectin-like receptor subfamily F member 1 (KLRF1) were all significantly expressed in 3 groups, which were significantly enriched in asthma, T1D and intestinal immune network for IgA production pathway.
The selected SNPs were well genotyped by HRM, and SNP rs3809865 in the 3' untranslated region (3'UTR) of ITGB3 was found to be strongly associated with asthma (adjusted p = 0.004).
Of the 160 SNPs previously genotyped in these 39 genes, 10 SNPs in 6 genes were significantly associated with asthma (including the first independent replication for asthma-associated integrin beta(3) [ITGB3]).
ITGB3 may play an important role in the development of asthma and allergy and may represent a potential therapeutic target for the treatment of these disorders.
