This study evaluated polymorphisms IL-1RN VNTR and TNFB+252A/G in a population from Southeast Brazil with regard to the risk of chronic gastritis and gastric cancer and the presence of an association of gastric lesions with risk factors such as gender, age, smoking, drinking and Helicobacter pylori infection.
This study indicates that the LTA +252G allele is associated with increased risk for the presence of GC in a Helicobacter pylori infection positive subgroup and potential interaction between IL-10 and LTA may contribute to the risk of GC.
To examine the role of genetic factors in development of immune thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) in association with Helicobacter pylori infection, gene polymorphisms within the loci for human leukocyte antigen class II, interleukin (IL)-1beta (-511), tumor necrosis factor-beta (+252), immunoglobulin (Ig)G1 heavy chain (+643), and Igkappa light chain (+573) were determined in 164 adults with ITP and 75 healthy controls.
Because gastric cancer and duodenal ulcer are mutually exclusive outcomes of Helicobacter pylori infection, we aimed to investigate possible allelic variant associations of several functional polymorphisms in the IL-1B, IL-1RN, TNFA, and LTA genes in the susceptibility to duodenal ulcer.
