The secretoglobin mammaglobin 1 (MGB1) is strongly expressed in breast tumours, and is therefore used to detect breast cancer metastases, although it has also been detected in other tissues.
In vivo selectivity was determined by i.v. injection of MamAb-680 into mice with mammaglobin-A-positive and -negative mammary fat pad (MFP) tumors; and by peritumoral MFP injection of the targeted imaging probe in mice with spontaneous ALN metastases.
The detection of patients with metastases was more sensitive when testing for both MGB1 and MGB2 (P < .0001) rather than MGB2 (P < .0005) or MGB1 (P < .05) alone.
