Could EMA and cytokeratin 7 be useful in distinguishing tricholemmal carcinoma from clear-cell squamous cell carcinoma? A case series from our department and a brief review of the literature.
MUC1 expression was also increased among areas of squamous cell carcinoma versus dysplastic areas (mean difference = 0.44, 95% CI, -0.006-infinity; P = 0.052).
These results indicate that muc-1 is a key factor in SCC-9 tumor migration, invasion, and suggesting that muc-1 can be a novel therapeutic target in oral squamous cell carcinoma.
The results showed that: (1) the incidence of bladder cancer in both MUC1.Tg and wild type mice was 67%; (2) transitional cell carcinomas (TCC) developed at a 2:1 ratio compared to squamous cell carcinomas (SCC); (3) inflammatory cytokines increased with time during tumor development; and (4) administration of the peptide vaccine induces a Th1-polarized serum cytokine profile and a MUC1 specific T-cell response.
Submucosal glands of control esophageal mucosa expressed MUC5B, whereas MUC1 and MUC4 were found in both control epithelium and squamous cell carcinoma.
To provide information regarding the expression of these genes in squamous metaplasia and squamous cell carcinoma, we analyzed and compared the expression of MUC1-MUC7 genes by in situ hybridization in control respiratory mucosa and lesions associated with neoplasia (hyperplasia, metaplasia and dysplasia) and squamous cell carcinomas.
The expression of squamous cell carcinoma-related antigen in adenocarcinomatous components was significantly higher than that of lung adenocarcinomas (57 +/- 5.8% vs. 1.0 +/- 0.5%, P < 0.0001), whereas Mucin 1 expression is less in these components (9.0 +/- 4.9% vs. 55 +/- 8.2%, P = 0.003).
Immunohistochemical study of MUC1 mucin in premalignant oral lesions and oral squamous cell carcinoma: association with disease progression, mode of invasion, and lymph node metastasis.
The cellular basis for muc-1 expression is speculative at present and although it is at a lower level than in adenocarcinomas, it may help to provide further insight into epithelial cell differentiation in squamous cell carcinomas.
