NM was associated with a higher rate of NRAS mutation (P < .001), and high-throughput sequencing revealed NM-specific genomic alterations in NOTCH4, ANK3, and ZNF560, which were independently validated.
This work identified significant correlations between BRAF mutations and melanoma occurring on non-chronic sun-damaged skin and superficial spreading melanoma (P < 0.05) on one hand, and between NRAS mutations and nodular melanoma (P < 0.05) on the other hand.
In contrast, the NRAS mutation was frequently evident in patients with nodular melanoma (OR=1·894; P<0·001) and in melanomas arising in chronic sun-damaged skin (OR=1·887; P=0·018).
