We conducted a 1 to N case-control study involving 300 nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) cases and 533 controls matched by age, gender and ethnicity to investigate the effect of hOGG1Ser326Cys, ITGA2 C807T and XPD Lys751Gln polymorphisms on NPC risk.
The results of the present study obtained from a large sample indicate that the XRCC1 and hOGG1 genes are unlikely to play a role in the susceptibility to NPC in North Africans.
After adjustment for sex, age, and ethnicity, the odds ratio (OR) of developing NPC for hOGG1 codon 326 genotypes of Ser/Cys and Cys/Cys compared with the Ser/Ser genotype was 1.6 (95% CI, 1.0-2.6).
