The objective of this study was to investigate the association of ANGPTL4 gene variants (E40K) with fasting serum triglyceride levels and with cardiovascular risk factors, that included the presence of MetS in 817 subjects recruited from the Mashhad stroke and heart Atherosclerosis Disorders (MASHAD) cohort Study.
Here, we have discussed the potential role of ANGPTL4 in mediating the cross talk between metabolic syndromes, such as diabetes and obesity, and cancer through regulation of its expression by PPARs.
The objective of this study was to investigate the association of ANGPTL4 variants (E40K and T266M) with triglyceride levels and with cardiovascular risk factors, such as metabolic syndrome (MetS) and obesity in type 2 diabetic Tunisian population.
Plasma ANGPTL4 was significantly higher in patients with the metabolic syndrome than in subjects without the metabolic syndrome (26.0 ± 19.4 ng/ml vs. 22.2 ± 19.7 ng/ml; p = 0.008).
Finally, plasma Angptl4 was independently and negatively associated with carotid artery sclerosis measured by 3-T MRI in subjects with metabolic syndrome and low-grade systemic inflammation.
Angptl4 concentration is correlated positively with triglycerides in patients with metabolic syndrome, although most studies have failed to find such a correlation.
