Compared with the blank and miR-126 inhibitors + siRNA-EGFL7 groups, tumor size, tumor weight, and MVD of transplanted tumors in nude mice were significantly reduced in the miR-126 mimics and siRNA-EGFL7 groups, while the opposite trend was found in the miR-126 inhibitors group.
MicroRNA-126 (miR-126), an endothelial-specific miRNA located within intron 7 of epidermal growth factor‑like domain 7 (EGFL7), has been demonstrated to act as a tumor suppressor in various types of human cancer.
Furthermore, EGFL7-overexpressing cells grew into larger tumors and were more likely to metastasize to the liver compared to underexpressing CG cells following subcutaneous injection in mice.
