The suppressive action of paclitaxel on meningioma cell growth was enhanced in the presence of fluvastatin or the mitogen-actvated protein kinase (ERK1/2) inhibitor PD98059.
In conclusion, we found that human meningiomas express CXCR4 and SDF1 and that hSDF1alpha induces proliferation in primary meningioma cell cultures through the activation of ERK1/2.
Considering the critical importance of the Erk-1/2 signal transduction pathway not only in meningiomas but in other human neoplasms, the interruption of signaling through this evolutionarily conserved pathway might be one of the mechanisms by which AKBA induces suppression of proliferation and apoptosis of different tumor types.
