Tumor progression was noted in 15 DA and 4 patients succumbed to the disease; in this subgroup the main unfavorable prognostic factors for OS and PFS were presence of aneuploidy (P = 0.0510) and MIB-1 index ≧3.9% (P = 0.0141), respectively.
A larger proportion of aneuploid tumors were positive for p53 and MiB1 (64.8 vs. 86.5%, respectively), but p53 and MiB1 immunostaining were not better indicators than ploidy alone to predictcancer progression.
In the present study we analyzed the MIB 1 immunostaining as an index of cellular proliferation in cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN) and microinvasive carcinoma, with the aim to identify a relationship with the degree of dysplastic lesion and the risk of neoplastic progression.
