Rac3, a member of the Rac family of small guanosine triphosphatases (GTPases), regulates a variety of cell functions, including the organization of the cytoskeleton, cell migration, and invasion.
In the invasive MDA-MB-231 cells, Rac3 inhibition caused a marked reduction of both invasion (40%) and cell adhesion to collagen (84%), accompanied by an increase in TNF-induced apoptosis (72%).
Rac proteins of the Rho-like GTPase family, including the ubiquitous Rac1, the hematopoiesis-specific Rac2, and the least-characterized Rac3 play a major role in oncogenic transformation, tumor invasion and metastasis.
