Most of these genes were highly expressed in DCIS samples with IBC, including PLAU (P = 0.002), COL1A1 (P = 0.006), KRT81 (P = 0.009), S100A7 (P = 0.015), SCGB1D2 (P = 0.023), KRT18 (P = 0.029), and NOTCH3 (P = 0.044), whereas EGFR and CXCL14 showed a higher expression in cases with pure DCIS (P = 0.015 and P = 0.028, respectively).
We found a significant negative correlation between the expression of ICAM-1 and psoriasin, and a positive correlation between psoriasin and MUC1 in normal and DCIS SAGE libraries.
The findings reported here suggest that, although S100A7 may not be a marker for recurrence of DCIS, it is associated with poor prognostic markers in DCIS and may influence progression of breast carcinoma through its interaction with and influence on Jab1.
We determined, by serial analysis of gene expression (SAGE) analysis of normal and DCIS (ductal carcinoma in situ) mammary epithelial cells, that psoriasin and several other genes implicated in psoriasis are aberrantly expressed in high-grade, comedo DCIS.
