Finally, we evaluated changes in FGF10, surfactant protein C (SFTPC), platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule (PECAM) and alpha-smooth muscle actin 2 (α-SMA) expression in human lung samples from patients suffering from BPD.
We present an infant who was born premature at 23 weeks gestation with bronchopulmonary dysplasia and a SFTPC gene mutation, p.R167Q, who had a complicated neonatal course requiring 4 months of mechanical ventilation.
In the present study, the exonic variation of the SP-C gene in the Finnish population (n=472) was defined, and the association of the allelic variants with the susceptibility to RDS and BPD was examined.
