BMP4 level was associated with lobulation sign, spinous process sign, tumor diameter and mediastinal lymph node metastasis in CT findings (p<0.05), rather than spiculation sign, ground glass sign, calcification lesion and CT enhancement value of lung cancer (p>0.05).
Regarding that many developmental pathways in embryogenesis are dysregulated in cancer, we aim to unravel the role of FSTL1-BMP4-Smad pathway in lung cancer.
Meanwhile, the ERK1/2 (extracellular-signal-regulated kinase 1/2) pathway, which is required for senescence, was not activated by BMP4 in the lung cancer cell line NCI-H460.
Our study has shown that the expressions of the VEGF, BMP-2 and BMP-4 mRNAs were significantly higher (7.1-fold, 25.6-fold and 2.3-fold, respectively) in lung cancer samples than in adjacent normal lung tissues (real-time RT-PCR).
