TLR5 was initially associated with the recognition of <i>H. pylori</i> flagellin, but it seems that this bacterium has developed mechanisms to escape this recognition representing an important factor involved in the persistence of this infection and subsequent carcinogenesis.
Data revealed that some TLRs participate in oral carcinogenesis since TLR5 and TLR9 promote tumor growh, whereas TLR3 is closely involved to anti-cancer properties.
In current study, we systematically evaluated genetic variations of TLR5, and their interaction with Helicobacter pylori infection among carcinogenesis of gastric cancer, using a large case-controls study among Chinese population.
