Because Ang2 levels are very high in ischemic diseases, such as diabetic macular edema, neovascular age-related macular degeneration, uveitis, and cancer, targeting α5β1 with AXT107 provides a potentially more effective approach to treat these diseases.
This review provides an overview of the complex Ang2-dependent signaling involved in CVD and cancer, as well as a survey of the related clinical literature.
Moreover, miR-29b inhibits angiogenesis by attenuating tube formation and the expression of VEGF and Ang-2, and stemness maintenance in GBM cells, as demonstrated by decreasing neurosphere formation and cancer stem cell marker protein expression.
Ang-2 is up-regulated by endothelial cells in malignant tumors and inflamed tissues, so our finding that Ang-2 is a chemoattractant for human Tie-2(+) monocytes and macrophages, suggests that it may help to recruit and regulate their distribution in such tissues.
A significantly 3- and 2-fold respectively, drop of the VEGF and Ang-2 mRNA expression in conjunction with a 2-fold significantly higher expression of Ang-1 mRNA in the group of grade 2 TCC when infiltrating the muscle layer may represent a crucial event during urothelial carcinogenesis, and possibly indicates an important step in promoting the conversion of bladder cancer from a low to a high malignancy in this subset of carcinomas.
In this study, we used a murine ovarian cancer angiogenesis model induced by overexpression of VEGF, as well as 52 human ovarian cancer specimens and 36 established cancer cell lines to characterize the expression and regulation of Ang-2 in the context of tumor angiogenesis.
When we examined the localization of Ang-2 in human gastric cancers, immunohistochemical analysis revealed that this protein was expressed predominantly in cancer tissues when compared with normal tissues.
