Compared with patients without KCNJ5, ATPase, or CACNA1D mutations (wild type), ATPase mutations tended to have more severe hyperaldosteronism and smaller tumors; those with CACNA1D mutations had clinical characteristics and tumor sizes similar to those with wild-type genes.
Several ion-channels showed significantly increased expression in tumors (p < 0.0005); nine genes (namely, CACNA1D, FXYD3, FXYD5, HTR3A, KCNE3, KCNE4, KCNN4, CLIC1, TRPM3) showed such significant modification in at least half of datasets investigated for each cancer type.
Patients with tumors harboring mutations in CACNA1D, ATP1A1 and ATP2B3 were operated at an older age, were more often male and had tumors that were smaller than those in patients with KCNJ5 mutated tumors.
