The EIF3S3 overexpression was associated with increased fraction of cells in S-phase and with phosphorylation of retinoblastoma (Rb) protein. siRNA treatment inhibited significantly (P = 0.0022) the growth of all breast and prostate cancer cell lines studied.
The data suggest that the expression of EIF3S3 is increased in prostate cancer, and that one of the mechanisms underlying the overexpression is the amplification of the gene.

We have recently demonstrated that the EIF3S3 (eIF3-p40) gene, located at 8q23, is often amplified and overexpressed in both breast and prostate cancer.
