AURKB messenger RNA expression was higher in primary carcinomas, and solid metastases obtained prechemotherapy compared with postchemotherapy (P < .001 and P = .012, respectively), with no such difference in effusions (P > .05).
Aurora B kinase and survivin, major components of the CPC, were particularly upregulated in high-grade carcinomas and may therefore comprise therapeutic targets for these tumors.
The Aurora A and Aurora B kinases belong to a highly conserved family of serine/threonine protein kinases, are tightly regulated during the cell cycle, and are overexpressed in many carcinomas.
We now confirm these observations in a second series of 44 carcinomas and also show that aurora B kinase protein levels are raised in the tumours compared to normal tissue.
