Initially, we found that PTTG1 expression was significantly increased in androgen-independent prostate cancer cell lines PC3, DU145 and CRPC specimens compared with that in androgen-dependent prostate cancer cell line LNCaP and initial prostate cancer specimens.
In conclusion, PTTG1 expression determined by immunohistochemical staining in needle biopsy specimens for diagnosis is a negative prognostic factor for progression in localized or locally advanced prostate cancer receiving hormone therapy.
These results suggest that PTTG1 may be a potential prognostic marker for prostate cancer and that the down-regulation of PTTG1 may be a therapeutic target in the suppression of prostate cancer growth.
