This study seeks to determine the effects of serum vitamin D and urine cotinine on asthma severity and on T regulatory cells (Tregs) and other immune-related factors such as CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19, CD16/56, and anti-CD3 HLA-DR3.
M. atichisonii recovered the typical asthmatic morphological changes in lungs, such as mucous hyper‑secretion, epithelial layer hyperplasia, eosinophil infiltration and various cell surface molecules, such as CD3, CD4, CD8, CD19 and major histocompatibility complex class II.
The frequency and numbers of peripheral blood CD4+ interferon (IFN) gamma+ T-helper (Th) type 1, CD4+ IL-4+ Th2, CD4+ IL-17A+ Th17, CD4+CD25+ Forkhead Box P3+ regulatory T cells (Treg) and CD19+ IL-10+ Bregs in 22 children with asthma, 17 children with asthma and AR, and 25 healthy controls were determined by flow cytometry.
Asthmatic and nonasthmatic subjects had similar numbers of blood CD4+ T cells (779/mm3 +/- 73 and 766 +/- 115, respectively) and CD19+ B-cells (239/mm3 +/- 35 and 379 +/- 95, respectively); however, CD8+ T cell numbers were decreased in asthmatic compared with nonasthmatic subjects (378/mm3 +/- 66 and 568 +/- 53, respectively; P = 0.045).
