Nevertheless, rs2715267 had no significant association with sepsis susceptibility (P > .05).AA genotype and A allele of CD86 polymorphism rs1129055 might be correlated with decreased sepsis susceptibility in Chinese Han population, but not rs2715267.
Chi-square test was performed to estimate the associations between CD86 gene polymorphisms and sepsis risk, and the results were presented through odds ratio (OR) and 95% confidence intervals (CI).
Also, the overexpression of major histocompatibility complex class II (MHC II) and other costimulatory molecules (CD80 and CD86) in macrophages essentially indicates that SslE promotes macrophage activation and M1 polarization, which are crucial in framing the host's innate immune response to this protein, and hence, SslE could be a potent immunotherapeutic target against E. coli sepsis.
These results suggest that polymorphisms in CD86 gene have diverse effects on the pathogenesis of pneumonia-induced sepsis, in which rs17281995G/C may increase the risk of the disease by interfering gene expression of CD86 in monocytes.
In conclusion, the increased ILT4 expression and IL-10 production and the decreased CD86 expression and IL-12 production indicate that during sepsis monocytes undergo substantial modulation of the surface and cytokine phenotype.
